Our beautiful, historic church and churchyard are grade 1 listed. Built for all to enjoy and to the glory of God, we have a duty to lovingly care for it.
Our band of volunteers do just that! But we are few and getting older by the year, many of us being in our 70s and older. We are slowing down and are badly in need of help. A small amount of help by lots of people can go a long way.
You do not have to be a church goer or even a committed Christian to help. Quite a number of the church volunteers and supporters just do so because they love and admire our special Paladian edifice and want it displayed as a stunning centrepiece for our pleasant Kent country village to all our visitors.
How can I help?
Here are some of the jobs that have to be seen to:
In the Church building:
Repairs - It is an old building and items keep breaking. Do you have a skill that could help?
Sound System - We have an excellent system but would value an expert with time to check we are making the most of it and keep us on line.
Cleaning - Old buildings generate dust and dirt. Help would be gratefully received for jobs such as dusting, polishing, sweeping, floor polishing, kitchen and toilet cleaning, sorting out cupboards etc.
Flowers - Are you interested in flower arranging. We are badly in need of more people to join the rota for Sunday flower arrangements and arrangements for special events
In the Churchyard:
Grass cutting - This year (2018) T&M still give money to Mereworth Parish Council for grass cutting but recently this work has been less than perfect. We need volunteers to collect unsightly grass cuttings and to mow along the path sides and around the cream teas area.
Path edge tidying - Strimming along the edge of the paths
Weed control - on the paths
Wildlife area care - the church has a special wildflower area as well as the whole churchyard being designated a Kent Local Wildlife Site.
Shed/pavillion painting and repair - these are getting older and need more and more attention.
Pruning - even pruning just one tree or shrub helps
Sweeping - the oak tree next to the war memorial makes a lot of mess!
Other:
Help with Cream Teas - held Sundays during July and August and Bank Holiday Monday. We would welcome cakes, scones, savouries and help on some of the days (esp Bank holiday weekend!)
Fund raiser - the church has fabulous acoustics for concerts and is a most unusual venue for a dinner party. Have you the skills to promote our church?
Help at events - help stewarding, organising, with refresments etc is always welcome.
Help organise events - organising is a big job and having help with decisions, plans etc is great.
If you feel you can help in any way please contact us. We badly need new enthusiasts to keep the church beautiful.
